Web users are web-builders

David Dylan Jessurun

David Dylan Jessurun does webdesign, SEO/SEM and Usability consulting.

He believes in a holistic apoproach to the web; marketing, (standards-based) design, technology and espresso make for a website which earns you money, ignore one and the others will cost you money.

In 1992 he was carefully coaxed off Fido and onto the Internet. Since then he’s been involved with the ‘net in one way or another. Some highlights:

  • Consulting for large weekly publications.
  • Studied Multi-Media design (amongst others).
  • Worked with Signicom Research & Consultancy on Usability research when this was a largely unexplored field.
  • Active participant of DB-NL mailinglist, an Internet ‘Think tank’.

Jobs held:

  • System/network administrator.
  • Owner of a design business in the Caribbean.
  • Internet helpdesk, 2nd tier.
  • Project Manager multi-media/researcher.
  • Webmaster/Webmanager (several employers).
  • Webdesigner (freelance and employed).

Jobs not held/run away from:

  • Mc Donalds. Exactly one day.

For some odd reason he’s still not rich yet.

During his prolific and rather unconventional career he’s become experienced in marketing, design, seo/sem, accessibility/usability, management (courses in, amongst others, psychology), where to get the best espresso and a fair bit of ‘hands on’ coding.

He considers himself a tube; you pour caffeine in one end and great ideas and designs come out the other end.

He works at all hours. His TV is an old tube model, but that’s ok because he never uses it. His five computers however…

His hobbies include writing, reading, collecting old books, playing (non-computer) games and LARP. Very geeky, but he doesn’t care.

To lure him away from the computer you’d better bring a first edition Bomans, any book by Terry Pratchett or a (board) game and pleasant company. On occasion he can be found dancing or philosophising in shady bars with live Jazz/Blues/If-it’s-good-it’s-good music.

He likes freelancing because he hates shaving. He likes working for an employer because he likes food in regular and steady doses.
